Dre and Jay-z to release a track!!!

March 30, 2010

Rumor has it, Dr. Dre and Jay-Zhave teamed up on a new song and the two are going to release the joint track this week. The news was first brought forward by E! News correspondent Michael Yo on his Twitter.

“Look for it this week New Jay Z and Dr Dre!!! Can’t wait:),” he wrote. “Everyone buzzing about it at interscope records!!” The title of the song is yet to be revealed but sources suggested it is one of the songs recorded for Dr. Dre’s upcoming album “Detox”.

Indeed, Dr. Dre has admitted about inviting Jay-Z to rap on “Detox”. In an interview with MTV in October last year, the rapper/producer said, “Well, actually, Jay-Z’s just been in the studio doing some writing. — Hopefully I’ll get him to perform on the record. Jay, come holler!”

Jay-Z is expected to attend a ground breaking ceremony for the Nets’ new arena in Brooklyn today

March 11, 2010

(March 11) at Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn, New York.

The rapper, who owns a percentage of the team, will be joined by developer Bruce Ratner, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. David Paterson to break ground on the construction for the construction of the Barclays Center, an 18,000-seat arena.

While some may welcome The Nets to Brooklyn, other property owners are planning to boycott today’s ceremony.

Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn will protest today in addition to challenging the project in court over private land being used by the state to develop the area.

Over 22 businesses and residents near Atlantic Yards will be evicted by the state if they do not voluntarily vacate their property by April 1st.

“I am angry with our so-called political leaders who proudly stand by their abuse of power,” Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn spokesman Daniel Goldstein told New York’s NBC Channel 4.

The Nets will begin playing at the new Barclay’s Center in 2012.

Jay-Z Loses Lawsuit over Roc Name

February 12, 2010

Though Jay-Z and Beyonce were recently dubbed Hollywood’s richest couple of 2009 by Forbes magazine, money can’t buy Hov everything.

Jay recently lost a lengthy court battle with 51-year-old celebrity chef Terry Miller over Miller’s “Rockafella” restaurant, which Jay felt infringed on his infamous Roc-A-Fella record label.

The lawsuit began in 2006, after Miller won $250,000 on cooking reality show ‘Hell’s Kitchen,’ and named his restaurant after his specialty dish, the King Prawn Rockafella. In the suit, Jay claimed that the name of Miller’s restaurant mislead people into believing that it was associated with his record label.

However, the Newcastle, UK court ruled in favor of Miller, granting him the trademark and exclusive rights to use the name. A similar case came up in the U.K. in 2007, when Sean “Diddy” Combs was forbidden the use of his chosen nickname after losing a court case with Richard “Diddy” Dearborn, who held the rights to the name in the U.K.

In any event Jay-Z and Beyonce raked in a reported $122 million in 2009, so Hov can definitely brush the dirt off his diamond-encrusted shoulders.
